Medical Art Friday

I've seen some interesting, to say the least, art plastered on the office walls of doctors and dentists, so I got to thinking about medical illustrations. Every Friday I'll post a picture of "medical/dental" related art...some will be funny, some realistic, others just downright disturbing...and analyze the thought processes that went behind making that "piece of art."

Here's an image of Salvador Dali's Ruby Lips Brooch (1949).

Metaphorical statements of "ruby-red lips" and "pearly-white teeth" was objectified by Dali and made into a surreal fashion piece which has been reproduced/copied a countless number of times in jewelry.

A little scary to look at (seeming as though it may eat me), its a great portrayal of simple, poetic words any girl likes hearing.

If only I saw great art pieces like this in my dentist's office. You'll see what I'm talking about next Friday.

Till then...Remember to Floss

Sweet Milky Way

...No not the candy. Astronomers have discovered that our Milky Way galaxy tastes like raspberries and smells of rum. The chemical ethyl formate, responsible for the sweet taste of raspberries and the smell of rum, was found while searching for the building blocks of a giant dust cloud at the heart of the galaxy. Sounds good and all, but they also found propyl cyanide in the same cloud.

I think its a trap set by aliens......"mhmmmm, raspberries and rum...oh wait... cyanide...ugh...now I'm dying...great."
